About the Author
Geboren am 8. Juli 1803 in Marieney/Vogtland; gestorben am 10. Oktober 1867 in Oldenburg. Julius Moses wurde als Sohn von Johannes Gottlob Moses geboren, der als Kantor und Schulmeister in der Gemeinde von Marieney wirkte. In Plauen besuchte er das Gymnasium und danach die Universität Jena. Während eines einjährigen Aufenthaltes in Italien empfing er Anregungen zu seinen bedeutendsten Werken. Danach lebte er als Jurist in Leipzig und ließ sich 1835 als Rechtsanwalt in Dresden nieder. In dieser Zeit entstanden vorwiegend Dramen. Im Jahre 1844 übersiedelte er nach Oldenburg, wo er als Dramaturg am Hoftheater tätig war. Im gleichen Jahr wurde der Familienname Moses durch Dresdener Ministerialerlass in Mosen geändert. 1846 erkrankte er schwer an einer rheumatischen Krankheit und war die letzten zwanzig Jahre seines Lebens bettlägerig.
